ALAA

The Association for Local Autonomy was established on January 12, 2010, as a voluntary and independent union of the Municipalities of the Republic of Albania, with the mission of more autonomy through strengthening and developing democratic structures and mechanisms in the organization and functioning of the Local Units.

 

The ALA's vision remains to strengthen the rights and freedoms of these Units as a prerequisite for the solution of the problems of local communities, being closer to them through inclusiveness and competencies in decision-making.

 

The Association for Local Autonomy aims at:

  • maintaining and strengthening local autonomy to develop democratic structures and mechanisms;
  • maintaining and strengthening local autonomy to develop democratic structures and mechanisms;
  • organization and functioning of Local Units and implementation of the principles of the European Charter of Local Autonomy;
  • implementation of the Constitution’s principle on decentralization of power in local governance;
  • contributing to the protection of the common interests of local governance units strengthening the rights and freedoms of the units and solving the problems of the community, being closer to them;
  • increasing transparency through inclusiveness in local government decision- making;
  • setting up a standard for local services through exchanges of best experiences;
  • increasing the performance of the units through training and qualifications of the administration;
  • developing the communication network between international counterpart associations and stakeholders;
  • organization of activities and involvement of the community in educational, socio-cultural and sport processes.
