The Municipality of Tuzi has officially obtained the BFC SEE Certificate for the first time, growing the network of local governments in Southeast Europe committed to creating a predictable, efficient, and supportive business environment. As one of Montenegro’s youngest municipalities, Tuzi has made impressive progress in strengthening institutional capacity and meeting key BFC SEE standards in a short period of time - a clear sign of its ambition for accelerated economic growth.
Located just 6.7 km from the capital Podgorica and in close proximity to the main international airport, Tuzi benefits from an excellent geographic position that enhances its strategic importance. The municipality also enjoys strong infrastructural connectivity to major regional cities and ports, including Bar, Dubrovnik, Tirana, and Sarajevo. This makes Tuzi an ideal location for investors seeking access to both domestic and international markets.
The area’s natural assets provide a solid foundation for sustainable development. Home to Skadarsko jezero, the largest lake in the Balkans, and the scenic Cijevna River canyon, Tuzi offers remarkable tourism potential. Its fertile land and proximity to 13. jul Plantaže vineyards — among the largest in Europe — make agriculture one of the key pillars of the local economy. In addition, rich forest resources and deposits of technical stone, sand, and peat support opportunities in the wood-processing and construction industries.
Tuzi also benefits from the advantages of its proximity to Podgorica, the country’s administrative and economic center, including access to a skilled labor force, high-quality infrastructure, and national and international institutions. With over 8.5 million euros in its annual budget, steady population growth, and a diverse economic base, Tuzi is emerging as one of Montenegro’s most promising investment destinations.
By achieving the BFC SEE certification, Tuzi has demonstrated its commitment to transparent governance, investor support, and strategic economic development. This milestone marks an important step in shaping Tuzi’s future as a competitive, sustainable, and business-oriented municipality.
The certification process was guided by Mr. Lindon Gjelaj’s vision: “The municipality of Tuzi aspires to become a dynamic, sustainable and inclusive community that provides favorable conditions for business development, creation of new jobs and improvement of the quality of life of all citizens. Our goal is for the Municipality of Tuzi to be recognized as an example of efficient local self-government that supports innovation, green transition and digital transformation, contributing to sustainable and balanced development of the community.
In the future, the focus will be on strengthening partnerships with local businesses, creating an attractive environment for domestic and foreign investors, as well as improving infrastructure that enables faster and more sustainable economic growth. Through transparency, responsibility and open dialogue with citizens and business entities, the Municipality of Tuzi will continue to build a community in which development and quality of life are the common goals of all its residents. Our priority is for Tuzi Municipality to become a modern, environmentally conscious and competitive business environment that combines tradition and modern trends, creating a safe and prosperous environment for all generations.”
